grooves12
I just installed a new SATA card in my server to expand capacity. The wires were difficult to trace so I just picked a random two drives to remove from MB and connect to SATA card. Is there any way in unraid to see which drives are connected to which controller? I am running headless and don't want to have to move everything around to connect to a monitor to check BIOS. Link to comment
RobJ
There's no easy way. If you understand syslogs, it's possible to figure it out. If not, attach a current syslog, and someone may be able to help. To save time, indicate which drives you are looking for. Link to comment
garycase
Clearly the simplest thing would be to simply look at the BIOS and then at the controller's BIOS (for each controller you have) to see what's connected. ... it is, however, only possible to do that (and a bunch of other things) if you either have IPMI or have a monitor on your server Not sure where your server is relative to your other PC's, but I have long VGA cables from my servers run to a VGA switch by one of my PCs, and when I need to do anything on one of the servers that I need a display for I simply plug in a USB keyboard and switch the display to that server. VGA cables can be run up to 100' (although I only needed a couple 25' and one 35' cable [~ $10 at Monoprice]. A little 4-port monitor switch is all I had to add: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10106&cs_id=1010601&p_id=55&seq=1&format=2 As long as you have a computer within 50' or so of the server this is a very simple way to be able to connect a display without having to "move everything around".
