Moving all drives to new server

Featured Replies

Hi All

Moving to 6.0 with a twist.

I have two servers.  One that is actively used that is running 5.06, the other is a test server running 6.0 stable.  Now that I have the test server on 6 stable I want to move all of my drives (parity, cache and data) to the 6.0 server (reason is I like the drive bays and case better).

What files in the config folder, if any, do I need to transfer from the 5.06 server to the 6.0 server.  I've read that the 'go' file on the 6.0 should not be overwritten and that the plugins are not compatible from 5 to 6 so I'm not what file I need.

Maybe I'm making this harder than it is.

Thanks in advance.

If you're going to upgrade using your current v5 key file (i.e. you only have one key), you can use this guide:

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6

Simply move all the drives to the new server, and follow the guide.

If you're going to ADD all of the drives from your v5 server to your v6 server, simply shut down; move the drives; then do a New Config and assign all of your data drives to the v6 server.  BEFORE you do that, be sure you know which drives are data drives; which is the cache drive; and which drive you want to use for parity.

Thank you. Both servers have keys. Thanks for the reminder. I always record the drive assignments as you indicate. I' m not adding the drives. It's a wholesale replacement, but your instructions should still apply as it will be a config reset on the v6 server.
