July 3, 201511 yr A few days ago, I rerouted my ethernet to pass through to my system via the UPS. I didn't think much about it, I rather thought I was doing something GOOD to further protect my server from surges and lightning transients. I had also upgraded to a beta (since I am a chicken, I tend to wait out even solid releases for a few weeks so I don't suffer "gotchas"). I had been noticing some playback dropouts (pauses of ~1-2 seconds). I thought it was something about the beta. Today, while reviewing my system stats, I realized that I was seeing 100mb/s Ethernet speed - not 1000mb/s like it should be. Lightbulb. I went down and plugged my server DIRECTLY back into the switch and VOILA! back to 1000mb/s speed. I'll do some playback tonight and let ya know, but I think that was it. Not unRaid - a gremlin of my own making. I think the low end battery backup I have (an APC Back-UPS) doesn't support 1000mb/s passthrough. (Yup, just verified it only supports 10/100 so rerouting was a not-so-hot idea. ) If you are having playback issues and you are passing through a UPS, you may want to try bypassing the UPS to ensure that isn't causing a problem. And while I am at it - I just want to say that bonienl has outdone himself with all the awesome changes to the user interface. It is truly a work of art - everything works great and for the first time I even have notifications working. Thanks a million for the awesome "dark" theme - now I can check the status late without bathing the bedroom in bright light and waking she who must not be disturbed. unRaid is Awesome...Hope this helps someone else.
July 4, 201511 yr Thank you for the report. I've been afraid that was true, probably for most UPS units that claim to *protect* network cabling. It's my feeling, untested yet, that if the UPS does not clearly state support for gigabit, then it probably does NOT support gigabit connections.
