Memory Usage - Does this looks right?

Featured Replies

Guys

I have 4gb of RAM and run Llink, Unmenu, and cache_dirs...does this look right?  I don't have a big library of files being cached, so I would have thought that "free" memory would be higher.

Mem:  4149528k total,  4023948k used,  125580k free,    37120k buffers

Swap:        0k total,        0k used,        0k free,  3858488k cached

Thanks for any input!

Don't forget, the cache has anything read or written from/to the disks, not just directory entries.  The "free memory" looks fine. You've got about 3.8G of data in the disk cache.  If you've read or written to the disks, or performed a parity check, you probably have had far more data than that go through the disk buffer cache.

PS.  I recently posted a new version of cache_dirs.  I learned that setting cache_pressure to 0 would not free memory for system processes at all.  This could result in the out-of-memory process killing processes un-necessarily.  I now set it to 1.  This should allow it to give up memory if it needs and not kill programs to get it. Depending on when you grabbed your copy of cache_dirs, you might want to download the newer version.

Where is this new version?

Ok thanks! I wish we had a better way of getting all these customizations and their latest versions. Going through posts to find the latest versions just isn't practical.

I wonder, couldn't we have a page on the Wiki for all the customizations and just have the authors update the links to the current versions? Could do something as simple as a table with the name, author, description and a link to the latest version. Then just put a sticky in the user customizations with a link to the wiki page.

Thank you, Joe!  This makes perfect sense and am glad to hear my memory looks ok.  I just downloaded 1.6.1 and will give it a try.

Thanks again,

Jim

Adrian, we are always happy to see anyone contribute to the Wiki, and thanks in advance for any contributions you make.  I'm sure you are aware of the UnRAID Add Ons wiki page.  It was just a first stab at collecting the info for the various addons, scripts, customizations, plugins, etc, and can certainly be improved, and it is still missing some the plugins and scripts.  Feel free!  If you aren't familiar with the MediaWiki software, the Start Contributing page should help.

I'm sure you are aware of the UnRAID Add Ons wiki page.

Lol, I really need to spend more time in the wiki, I completely missed that one. I just got so used to just monitoring the forums for changes :)
