Biostar A760G M2 - compatible quad cores

Featured Replies

I have a Biostar A760G M2+ with the latest BIOS and if possible I would like to know what, if any quad cores work with it.

I have tried 2 AMD Phenom™ X4 Quad-Core 9150e and both did not work at all, no BIOS, no beeps stone cold dead, re-insert old CPU and it works again.

The CPU is on Biostart's compatibility list, http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=394#cpu - so I looking for real world users information here, which CPUs have been used successfully with members here, as I know this motherboard was a popular choice at one time.

I will also settle for a dual or tri core, but my main criteria is 45W or 65W, CPUs, which is usually designated with an "e" within the CPU type/number.

AM2+ is going to be your stumbling block.  Have you considered swapping the board for something like the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 or the Gigabyte 78LMT/USB3.  Both work with pretty much every AM2/AM3 CPU.  I've even run a FX8320E in those boards, no problems.

The motherboard is meant to be compatible with AM3, so it says in manual and on their website, but guess not.

The current CPU is a AM3 Sempron 140 and works fine.

Thanks for the alternative motherboard suggestions, I think this might be my best option now.
