Moving existing Unraid array to a new Flash with different GUID

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I want to move an existing UNRAID server across to a new flash GUID.  Unfortunately for reasons I wont go into I dont have the config file for the current array and as such I want to know how I can "build" the new array and maintain the data that is on the current drives.

Advice appreciated.

Hi guys,

As long as you know which drive was the parity drive it is as easy as assigning the drives back to their original assigned slots on the "Devices" page and pressing "Start"

Since you do not have the config folder, or the super.dat file in it, you will need to have the array do a full parity calc on your data.

If you do not know which drive was the parity drive, leave the one you think it might be un-assigned. (don't assign a parity drive) and attempt to start the array with just the data drives assigned.  You should be able to get to all of your data, and none should show up as "Un-formatted" when you start the array.  If one disk shows as un-formatted, it might be the parity disk, accidentally assigned as a data disk.  Try assigning the other disk (the one you originally thought was the parity drive) as the data disk and see if it can then be accessed...

Once you can get to all your data drives, stop the array and assign the last drive as the parity drive and let it calculate parity.

Thx Joe - much appreciated.

I screwed up the last time I had a drive die by hitting restore (I know should have read the forums first!) so was a little nervous about loosing more data.  thx for the quick response.
