speedbal Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Good Morning: For the past view days I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my Unraid system. It initially started doing this in 6.1.1 (although it ran fine on it for a while - which leads me to believe it is hardware related), however I updated to 6.1.3 and it continues. My system allows me to start up in maintenance mode (array offline), however as soon as I try to put the array online, it crashes/locks up and is unresponsive to the the webgui as well as the console directly. I was finally able to catch the syslog while it crashes (tail3.txt in the zip file), however I can't find the culprit hardware item. I also attached a clean syslog with it booting into maintenance mode. Just need your help to identify if it is time to replace something (some components are fairly old). Thanks, in advance, for your help. speedbal syslog_and_tail_syslog.zip
itimpi Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 The tail shows that there is crash just after the system tries to access /dev/sdg which is BTRFS formatted. Presumably this is the cache disk? If so it might be worth temporarily removing it (and stopping any services such as docker that might be trying to use it) and see if you can then start the array.
speedbal Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 Well....My system is now up after removing the cache drive from the webgui. Thanks! I guess it is time to get a new cache drive? Here is the smart report of that drive. Not sure if I can get the info off of this drive (dockers, etc.) easily. Anybody got any advice on how to try once I get a new cache drive? Everybody moving to SSD now for cache (mine was a WD Black)? thanks again for your help speedbal. WDC_WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0_WD-WCAW33566795-20151018-0817.txt

It is probably worth putting the drive through one or more preclear cycles to see if the pending sectors go back to 0 and if they do the drive is probably OK. You could try plugging the drive into another system to try and retrieve data off it. I would think there is an excellent chance that will succeed.
