Question about multiple SSDs/Cache

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm prepping for my first unRAID build and had some questions.

Here's the scenario and I'm curious what you guys would do.

I have the following-

2x 250 GB Samsung 2.5" SSDs

2x 250 GB Samsung M.2 SSDs w/ PCI-E Adapters

I'll be running unRAID, Plex Media Server, and a VM which will require about 120GB

Should I run just the 2x M.2 SSDs for the speed? Will that be enough room for Plex/Cache with the remaining 130 GB?

OR Should I run all 4 SSDs and sack the speed of the M.2's for larger storage capacity?

Any help is super appreciated!

Unraid may not even support the m2 ssd via pcie adapters if they require device drivers.

They don't require drivers.

If you're using an SSD for your cache drive, does having a dual NIC (even unaggregated) help to take advantage of the SSD speed?

For me, drive slots are a very limited resource, so I would only use a small capacity drive for cache purposes.

They don't require drivers.

Have you tested them with unraid already?

There were reports from others that their 950 m2s were not seen by unraid.

So just make sure you test it out first before making a decision.
