plex docker question

Featured Replies

I have spent countless Time/ hours reading. trying to learn about dockers etc

started here:  noobie docker setup guide

then here: Plex Tip - Choosing a Plex Docker    --http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=41562.msg394257#msg394257

then here: All unRAID Application Template Repositories / Support Threads

I am very confused i see many different plex option in the one link of "All unRAID Application Template Repositories / Support Threads".

How does one know what is good? do i need pms plus plex pass,,

Then i read about needos , leads to my question or am i missing something..

current I run plex on win10 with no plex pass i want to switch over to  my newly build unraid server with a plex docker,  so what i read i should use needos because it will add plex pass for me , Is the correct?

If that is correct , can i make accounts for different member of house hold still?  will it stream to my apple devices?

I am sorry for the noobie questions

I would recommend linuxserver.io or binhex's versions.  linuxserver.io autoupdates on restarting the container, binhex's doesn't so it depends if you want to always be up to date or prefer a container that is static until an update is pushed.  There are fors and againsts for each.

No container/plugin will GIVE you plexpass, it's just they give those with plexpass the option of using the current plexpass version which may be different to the non-plexpass version.

Yes with Plex you can configure household accounts, yes you can stream to Apple.

Support for whatever container you choose should be in the appropriate support thread, but these are generally for docker setup and initial config only.  More complicated Plex config issues, should, IMHO, be directed to the Plex forums.

Think of what you're trying to achieve in terms of three distinct steps...

[*]Install  a docker container with the Plex Server

[*]Configuration of the Plex Server

[*]Using Plex clients on Apple devices to watch your media

Here is the place for number one....

The main stumbling block once you've got the server setup is adding your media.

If you have a user share in unraid called movies it will be located in /mnt/user/movies

When you setup the docker that may be mapped so the docker container can access it, a common way to map it is with /movies

Whenever you want to reach your movie share from WITHIN the Plex container you should point it to /movies NOT /mnt/user/movies because as far as the container is concerned /mnt/user/movies doesn't exist only /movies exists.

Plexit looks like a browser extension so no docker needed.  Easiest if you just read the descriptions in Community Applications and go to the project pages of the various things to find out about them.

I find the best thing to do is just dive in.... Get plex up and running and take things one step at a time.  Then worry about the other stuff...
