ping182nz
Hi, I need to change out a drive from 3TB to 4TB The new drive is a Seagate STV000VN000. I am going to use the PreClear GUI, can someone tell me what settings I need to use on the Preclear screen? Also, has anything changed in V6 to the process of swapping a data drive for a bigger data drive? i.e. Stop the array. Power down the unit. Replace smaller disk with new bigger disk. Power up the unit. Start the array. When you start the array, the system will reconstruct the contents of the original smaller disk onto the new disk. Link to comment
itimpi
No special settings required in preclear for any disk over 2TB in size. Assuming that your parity drive is already 4TB or larger then your steps look fine. If not then you need to upgrade the parity drive to a larger one first. Link to comment
SSD
See my sig for a link to an excellent process for upsizing parity and adding old parity as a data disk. (Replace parity inside best practices ) Link to comment

When you start the array, the system will reconstruct the contents of the original smaller disk onto the new disk. Although the process has not changed I think that since the disk has not failed you need to add some additional steps to the above before trying to use the new disk. - After stopping the array, unassign the current disk. - Start the array and the disk will be flagged as 'missing'. This simulates a disk failing and causes unRAID to 'forget the serial number of the old drive. - Stop the array Now continue from the power down step Link to comment
