preclear results - high Raw_Read/Seek Error/ECC numbers - drive ok?

Featured Replies

I searched previous threads and saw some posts with results like I have and they look to be maybe acceptable but I'd appreciate comments as I didn't see what look like high numbers to me for the Raw_Read_Error_Rate, Seek_Error_Rate and Hardware_ECC_Recovered specifically addressed in previous posts.

These numbers are definitely higher than I've seen with my other drives including a recent WD 6 TB Red etc.

I know Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Current_Pending_Sector are key values to check and those look ok but I seem to remember maybe needing to be concerned about a high Seek_Error_Rate .

This is one of the newer Seagate 8TB drives cleared using the Unofficial Faster Preclear]http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=32564.0/]Unofficial Faster Preclear

I want to use this drive as part of a parity swap procedure including a failed drive.  Just to be clear I'm familiar with that procedure.

Thanks for any comments!

I've responded in the Preclear results thread.

You posted here in the v4 and v5 support board.  Are you sure you want to use 6TB and 8TB drives with v5?  Might be better to upgrade to v6 and format them with XFS.

Thanks Rob I appreciate it!

I definitely intend to upgrade to v6 and had gathered the notes for that but just hadn't gotten around to it and then had a drive failure.  Something tells me I will want to get that taken care of before attempting to upgrade to v6 :)

Thanks for mentioning XFS I had not investigated that option yet as part of the move to v6.  I will look for a wiki article or thread about that.

There's a section in the Upgrading to UnRAID v6 guide, namely the File systems section.
