Are Supermicro motherboard mounting points standard?

Featured Replies

While googling around about Supermicro motherboards, it seems there are some complaints that the mounting points on the motherboards are not always standard. I don't know if this is specific to their E-ATX boards or also their ATX boards.

I also see very often (always?) on their motherboard description pages that a "Revision M" chassis is required/recommended. This seems to be specific to Supermicro chassis, which implies that other (i.e. normal) chassis might not work. I'm really not keen to go drilling holes in PC cases, so I'd be interested to know if anyone has had problems mounting Supermicro motherboards, or if not, what cases "work" with the motherboards.

They make standard motherboards but also a number of propriety boards designed to fit in their own chassis.  As far as i know these are described as such on their website.

Yes, they do have proprietary ones, but those are very obviously different - you can tell by the shape alone. For example, some look like a motherboard that has one quarter or one half missing.

My concern is about ones that are labelled as ATX or E-ATX.

All of my boards have those notes about requiring revision X chassis and they are standard ATX or mATX etc.
