unRAID offline while adding new drives?

Featured Replies

Okay, I'm using 4.5 beta 8 because it seems to improve NFS performance.  I added two new (well, used) to the array, then when I tell it to start the array, it goes through the clearing drive phase.  While doing this, my array is offline.  Is that normal?  I sure wasn't expecting that; I'm dead for however long it takes to clear these two new drives.

try Joe L's pre-clear script.

This does the whole pre-clear process which can be done while the array is still online.

When the pre-clear is done, you can add the new drive very rapidly.

yeah, it normal..

better to use the pre_clear script. (thanks Joe)

You can add the hardware and start the array without assigning the new drives. From a console window prepare the drives for unRaid and add them once they are ready.

Okay, so now that I already started this, can I cancel it and do the pre-clear?  Or am I stuck for this time....

I think it's going to force a parity rebuild anyway.

If you cancel it, your array will be unprotected for short time.

Or you can just let it run through the course. (Which is what I would do if I'm just adding one large drive).

Okay....

I added two 750 GB drives to the array.  It claims to be about 1/2 done after 1-1/2 hours.  So no watching MythTV tonight :-(
