March 8, 201610 yr I upgraded one of my data drives, going from an old 1Tb unit to a new WD Red 5Tb. The disk rebuild is very slow and giving me an estimated 52 day finish time. I think I have a dodgy cable (I did check all were seated properly after I added the new drive, but I think there is one that is suspect) that I would like to replace to make sure all runs smoothly. The question is, during this 52 day (or however long it turns out to be) disk rebuild and, assuming that the same HDD that is being rebuilt may have additional data added to it in the meantime - can I stop the rebuild, power down, replace what I think is the offending cable and then power back up so the data rebuild will continue/start again and any data that has been added to the drive during rebuild will still be there? Or do I have to wait for the data rebuild to finish and then power down, replace cable, power back up? Thanks in advance...
March 8, 201610 yr Community Expert If you cancel the rebuild it will always start from the beginning, but any data added in the meantime will be rebuilt, although most avoid writing to the array during a rebuild. 52 days clearly indicates a problem, if you go to tools, click diagnostics and attach the zip it can help us find the problem.
March 8, 201610 yr Author Thankyou for the prompt response. I will look at the diagnostics this evening and attach a zip to see if the problem can be easily identified...
March 8, 201610 yr Author here is the diagnostic zip file - hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of my problem... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B__E4ecsAryLWU1Ec1ktSEh6Rjg/view?usp=sharing
March 8, 201610 yr Community Expert Link to google drive is asking for permission, is the zip bigger than the forum max attachment size?
March 8, 201610 yr Author It says it is too large when I attach it. Here is another link, this should work! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B__E4ecsAryLWU1Ec1ktSEh6Rjg/view?usp=sharing

March 8, 201610 yr Author That looks like the winner to me - been rebuilding for 1 hour and 23 hours remaining! thank you so much for your assistance - that's one of the main reasons why I went with unraid -the support is great!
