March 1, 200719 yr Price really isn't an issue on these under 3.2ghz processors these days, but for lower heat, less power use at "maximum Unraid performance" which is the better bet? or doesn't matter? Thanks, Mark.
March 2, 200719 yr Hmmm....I suspect other factors (disk rotation speed & cache size, memory size and speeds, etc.) will have more influence on unRAID performance than L2 cache size (historically the primary difference between full blown Pentiums and their cheaper Celeron cousins). On the other hand, with the price difference so small ($10-$20), why not step up to the P4? I'm building a 2nd tower and am considering the "Intel Celeron D 356 (3.33GHz) Socket 775 FSB533 512KB" against the Intel Pentium 4 650 3.4Ghz Socket 775 800mhz 2mb Cache at another £20 or so. It's not the price, but that celeron is based on the Northwood core, is known to run cool and I don't know about any heat issues with the P4 alternatives. Does UnRaid make any use of that extra L2 cache is the question I guess. Mark.l
April 30, 200719 yr Was this question ever answered? I live in a part of the world without consistent power supply, so I'm on battery backups/generators for a third of every day, thus power consumption is a big deal to me.

I went for Celerons in the end due to lower heat, I actually have 4 unraids now (as I also use them for my business). All 4 with Celerons, one of them is a 2.2ghz and runs just as well as the 3 ghz ones. Mark.
