May 17, 201610 yr http://www.ebay.com/itm/262424239086 These drives are tanks I still have 4 of them in my unraid rig and not one has gone bad in 5 years of 24/7 on. For me these are worth it for spares.
May 17, 201610 yr Would be useful to know how many hours on these. Buyers, please let us know what the SMART reports look like, and how many hours on them.
May 17, 201610 yr The refurbs have a 90 day warranty on them. There is a huge thread on reddit about these . Nothing really useful mentioned yet though. I'm fairly sure the refurbished drives are probably just data center pulls though.
May 20, 201610 yr Someone who bought one commented after receiving the shipment. January 2012 manufacturing date.
May 20, 201610 yr On that reddit thread, some people are starting to post up info. Power on count: 34 Power on hours: 24303 Power on count: 24 Power on hours: 33474 https://embed.gyazo.com/468fd375a539cdf06ea5103709529d11.png With those numbers, really seems like data center pulls.
May 26, 201610 yr Are data center pulls bad things to get? I'm not biting now, but am upgrading my unraid box and will need a couple more disks soon.

Well, they can be a good value, but they're certainly not for everyone. From the numbers above, you get roughly half the lifetime and no warranty, but at a very good price, even if only half the lifetime. And there's a chance you may get more life than expected from them, bonus years. It would be interesting if someone would produce a table of the popular drives, and list not just their average dollars per gigabyte, but dollars per gigabyte per year (based on average longevity, currently estimated from percentage failing). It would be a good way to recognize the cream of the crop.
