[Solved] Unable to rebuild Data Disk from Parity

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been using unraid 6 for the last year without any issue and now I am stuck on a problem I cannot fix.

On Thursday I received an E-Mail that my Disk 3 has a read error, therefor it was taken out of the array and the contents emulated.

Today I received 2 new HDD, same WD Reds 3 TB as used in the array, and I replaced Disk 3.

After clicking to bring the array online, therefor starting the Data-Rebuild, it starts and end within a Minute and indicated that Disk 3 has a read error.

I tried the second new HDD as well, same result.

I am lost for ideas and appreciate any help which could be provided.

Thank you in advance and in case of any additional question please do not hesitate to contact me.

regards,

Phil

Start by posting the diagnostics: Tools => Diagnostics.

Grab them after a failed rebuild attempt and before rebooting.

Disk dropped offline almost immediately after starting the rebuild, because of that there's no SMART report, but it looks to me like a cable/controller issue, check/replace both cables and/or trade sata port.

Hi johnnie,

you were absolutely right.

I switch the cable and could do a smart test with the new HDD.

Nevertheless as it was a cable issue I tried the original HDD as well and successfully completed a smart test without error.

I started rebuilding the Data disk with the original one because I can add the 2 new HDD as additional Data disk.

Thank you fir the quick and precise help, I really appreciate it.

With regards,

Phil
