Console setup problems

Featured Replies

Been using IPMI and KVM viewer on a headless system, but iKVM Viewer has always been buggy. Freezes, crashes, etc. Since my rack with the unRaid sits right next to my desk I figured I would just connect the monitor on my MacPro (DVI) to my unRaid (VGA) with an adapter. Couldn't get it to work. The monitor cuts on and off with the unRaid system but no picture. Not sure if a special adapter is required or if this just won't work at all? Really don't want to spend a bunch of money for a VGA monitor that will be used so little.

Any recommendations for a cheap rack mounted VGA console maybe?

What monitor is it exactly? Maybe the VGA cable or adapter is bad.

Can you test another device using the VGA cable/adapter? Like a laptop or something.

It's an Apple Cinema HD display. I know the display cable is good. Use it all the time. Don't have any other machines with VGA. Most are mini display port. One other with DVI.

Not sure that the VGA port on the mobo isn't the problem. The port was so loose I had a really hard time connecting the adapter. A DVI-D pcie card might be a better solution? Really not sure which way to go with this problem?????

So perhaps a rack mounted console? I see quite a few rack mounted vga/ps2 consoles on eBay. Not sure about compatibility though?
