August 1, 20169 yr So i just ordered some stuff for my first server build (attached). The goal is to properly store all of my wifes pictures (she has about 50,000 pics), and build a plex server. I figure the Unraid is the way to go. One problem, i dont know jack about unraid. I have so many questions. 1. is there an "Unraid for dummies" guide? the wiki isnt really helpful for someone as ignorant as me. 2. installation seems very simple. I watch a youtube video & it looks like its all handle through a webUI. i cant figure out, for the life of me, how i would go about transferring my data onto the new drives. Would unraid read NTFS externals? 3. I use a seedbox. Now i see that there's a filezilla on Docker. Would this be the ideal way of downloading from my content onto the server? thanks, in advance, for all your help.
August 1, 20169 yr ... Would unraid read NTFS externals?... Yes, see Unassigned Devices plugin. Have you looked at the LimeTech website? It has a lot of introductory material which can give you a good overview. Then the manual on the wiki will make more sense. I store a backup of all my wife's pictures on my server. Note that unRAID (or any other storage solution) is not a backup by itself. The only thing that counts as a backup is extra copies. unRAID parity can rebuild a failed disk, but it cannot fix a corrupted file, or an accidentally deleted file, or other scenarios that might result in a file being lost. Plex and many other "media" applications are easily handled on unRAID with a dockers.
August 1, 20169 yr Author thanks for the quick response. I know that unraid will only rebuild a failed drive & thats exactly what im looking for, but i have no idea where to begin. I looked at the site, but it was all pretty confusing to me.
August 1, 20169 yr Have you looked at this page on the LimeTech website? Getting Started with unRAID Server OS And Using Applications with Docker Both of these pages can be accessed from the main page by mousing over the Support menu item at the top. Take some time to study these and then come back with more specific questions. You might also read some of the stickies in the forum. And see forum search tips in my sig.
