January 19, 201016 yr Just a thought: I like the various options for exporting disk and user shares. My current setup is to export all user shares read-only with the exception of my admin account, and to export all disk shares as hidden read/write. This allows me to access the media on my unRAID server from my HTPC through the guest (read-only) account and never have to worry about accidentally deleting files. I changed my disk shares to hidden read/write to clean up what I see from the HTPC - this all works fine. While I was making these configuration changes, something occurred to me: I will only ever want to access my disk shares from my admin account (the only account with full read/write privileges across the server). Plus, while the 'export as hidden' option is nice, I would rather avoid having to type in 'disk1' each time. Therefore, would it be possible to tie in the exportation method with a particular user account? For example, I would like to have this configuration: User: admin User Shares: Export read/write Disk Shares: Export read/write User: guest User Shares: Export read-only Disk Shares: Do not export

You can lock down share management based on user. There is the admin users and force user functionality. This would require user security. You can make a share visible, browseable, etc, etc. I do not think you can make it visible/browseable based on a user. Check out the smb.conf file man page and see what you might find. http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/manpages-3/smb.conf.5.html
