September 1, 20169 yr Pre-sales question, are there any plans in place to support SATA DOMs? I don't particularly put much faith in 20 cent/GB NAND flash.
September 1, 20169 yr Pre-sales question, are there any plans in place to support SATA DOMs? I don't particularly put much faith in 20 cent/GB NAND flash. Doubtful. Reason being, the current method of using USB flash works well. The OS is unpacked into memory, so I/O to the USB is very limited. If the flash does die, transferring the license to a new stick is quick and painless as long as you have a copy of your license file. Backups can be handled manually or by a plugin. I'm not affiliated with limetech, just a long time user.
September 1, 20169 yr Author Given that SATA DOMs were created for the specific purpose of running hypervisors, it is silly to restrict users from using them. Has nobody ever lost a USB/SD card to data corruption? The cheapest NAND silicon is the cheapest for a reason; they failed all other QC tests and have been relegated to USB/SD cards. I can count three SD card failures in past year in my camera alone, I don't remember all the USB drives I've tossed in the trash. Also, from what I've read on the main site, there's some config data that's needed along w/ the license? unRAID Server runs entirely from RAM, minimizing writes to the Flash device; however, it is also used to store vital system configuration data and must remain installed in your server during operation.
