September 6, 20169 yr I have been looking to build an All Flash array with a raid 0 m.2 array and a raid 0 SSD data array. I noticed within the Wiki for UnRAID that SSD devices are not supported and should not be used for the Data / parity devices. I wanted more information as to why this is the case, With this technically work? Is there any performance degradation? I have build all-flash arrays using other NAS software including FreeNAS, NAS4Free, FreeBSD, and several others support this as well. I guess i'm asking for a technical explanation as to why UnRAID does not support SSD Data disks while many other NAS software does?
September 6, 20169 yr Community Expert See here for an official response. Bottom line, they can be used, I have a SSD only server, read performance is great, writes are affected by the impossibility of using trim on the array, I get around this using a M2 cache device (cache can be trimmed). PS: You mention raid0, raid0 can only be used on the cache pool, not on the main array.
