How do I do a BIOS Update on UnRaid Server?

Recommended Posts

I'm having problems getting my new UnRaid server to recognise my SataII HDDs.

I want to update the Bios on my Asus P5LD2 SE 2.0 Mobo but can't work out how to do it.

I tried copying the updated BIOS to a CD, temporarily connect a DVD-Rom drive & using Alt+f2 from boot, despite detecting the CD and starting to read the file on it I get "File not present" after a few seconds.

Anyone have any tips on updating the Bios on a Mobo in an UnRaid?

Thanks,

Mark.

Well, as soon as I finish rebuilding my PC (looks like my RAID 1 drives took a hit and then I forced a sync...duh!), I plan on trying the same thing (Asus P5PE-VM mb).  Here's my plan.

1.  Download new Asus BIOS.

2.  Build new DOS 6.22 boot diskette and copy the new BIOS & loader onto it.

3.  Gracefully shut down unRAID server.

4.  Remove thumb drive, install floppy & reset BIOS to boot from floppy.

5.  Boot from floppy, load new BIOS, reboot server.

6.  Shut down server.

7.  Remove floppy diskette, insert thumb drive.

8.  Power up server, reset BIOS to boot from thumb drive.

9.  Reboot server.

I didn't have a PC with a Floppy, but that's basically what I had to do.  I borrowed a pals old Win98 PC.

I felt sure there would be a way to make a win98 boot USBkey that I could load the drivers on to and update from there, but I just couldn't find any solution.

The motherboard's so called easy bios update couldn't read the bios file from a CD, but once the Floppy drive was connected it was able to read that.

Thanks,

Mark.
