[SOLVED]Upgrade via plugin help please.

Featured Replies

I am attempting to upgrade from v5 to v6 via the plugin and everything went well until the reboot.  It lands on an 'ERROR: No configuration file found No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found.'

Not sure where to go from here.  I checked the bios and the flash is first boot drive, so I am lost now.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

V

Not sure, but sounds like syslinux is messed up.  I assume you extracted the whole distro to the flash drive (which created a syslinux folder), and ran make_bootable?

Even if you don't upgrade using the Upgrading to UnRAID v6 guide, I do recommend reading through it, skimming sections if needed.

Did this and stuck on the reboot.

Method 1 - using command line

Use console or telnet session to log into your unRAID-5 server.

Use 'wget' command to fetch the unRAIDServer.plg file:

Code: [select]

wget --no-check-certificate https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/unRAIDServer/master/unRAIDServer.plg

Then perform the upgrade by typing this command:

Code: [select]

installplg unRAIDServer.plg

When upgrade has completed, reboot your server.

Yes, I had looked at it previous.  Nothing in particular is standing out.

You are probably going to have to do a 'clean install' using the directions  in the Wiki that RobJ posted.

BE SURE that you do a complete backup of your Flash Drive first and double check that you have a copy of your .key file.  (Those are a part of the instructions!)

The plugin method of updating usually works but it isn't always capable of handling some configurations and situations.  In those cases, the update has to be done the 'hard' way which often turns out to the simplest way with the few headaches.

In LimeTech's Upgrading unRaid-5 to unRaid-6 thread, you'll see others with the same issue.  The plugin upgrades unRAID, but sometimes the flash drive needs the syslinux files upgraded too, and the plugin doesn't touch them.

You can find further advice in that thread for upgrading syslinux and running make_bootable, I believe.  I still think the best choice for most users is to start with a fresh flash drive, with all your previous config, using the Upgrade Install.

It may not have stood out, but a fresh install with upgraded syslinux boot files is important.  Some users got away without having to do it, but often had other issues later, and remnants of the past still on the flash.

Ok thanks guys for the guidance.  I did a clean install and shuffled the config files around as directions dictate and all is working well.

Thanks again.
