Windows 10 + Nvidia gtx 560 ti passthrough black screen

System INfo :

Model: Custom

M/B: Intel Corporation - S2600CP

CPU: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2670 0 @ 2.60GHz

HVM: Enabled

IOMMU: Enabled

I confirmed vt-d is supported by both mobo and cpu. Enabled in bios. I watched and configured win 10 vm from JonP's youtube video, did not go through in guest optimization settings yet. VM works fine with network and all using VNC. Usb passthrough was working when I tested with vnc.  I've shutdown the vm and assigned nvidia gpu for both audio and video however the vm boots and the screen stays black. Attached is the xml for the vm as well as the diags.

I'd appreciate any guides for unraid 6.2 and gpu passthrough as well as any tips/info regarding this problem.

If this applies to all NVidia cards, you'll either have to get a newer video card, or reroll that VM using Seabios instead of OVMF. It basically says that 630 and lower, and older series cards do not support UEFI booting.

You're welcome to see if you can find a UEFI firmware for it to add as a parameter in the XML. Assuming there is a Mac version of a 500 series card you can hope someone has dumped the firmware from, if it'll even work.

Thanks. I do have a newer gpu coming in tomorrow so I should be able to confirm if it's just the 560 ti that's the problem. I did try to do seabios which failed as well but I wont waste anymore time on it until I get the new card swapped in. I'll provide an update tomorrow night or Wednesday. Thanks again.

Its well documented that the 5xx series GPUs don't work well with GPU pass through.

I did try to find documentation that covered that, however all I found was  this document https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LnGpTrXalwGVNy0PWJDURhyxa3sgqkGXmvNCIvIMenk/edit#gid=0 which lists gtx 560 as working. I found it in the vm management wiki http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_6/VM_Management

I was able to get gpu passthrough with the 1070 once I got it installed however the one thing I've noticed is that the audio is crackling. I've only spent a couple minutes searching and I did find the following link, http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_6/VM_Guest_Support. I'll attempt to enable msi and see if it addresses my problem. Thanks for your time.

The MSI audio fix will solve crackling audio if you're doing the audio through the HDMI port on the GPU.  If you're using analog audio that's on the motherboard, you shouldn't have crackling.

The 5xx series GPUs not working has been asked a lot here in the forum.  There still may be ways to get the GPU to work if you follow the other guides in the wiki for supplying a ROM file, but that has been "hit and miss" as far as working.  Others have had to follow far more complicated guides to self-extract their VGA BIOS ROM from the card so they could manually supply it.

I did try the ROM files prior to getting my new gpu but I was unsuccessful. I was having audio issues though hdmi port on the gtx 1070 gpu which I tried to address using the msi fix however it did not quite address the problem. The audio would start to sound distorted during high cpu usage and then it seemed to function normally after a couple of minutes. The  high cpu usage on the vm was when I was running 3dmark.  I searched the forums  and that's where I found Dlandon's post,https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=49051.0.I think this has addressed the problem (i isolated some of the cores to be used specifically for the vm) since I was able to play music for a while and also played the witcher 3 without experiencing any audio problems.  I did have trouble passing my xbox 360 controller through to the vm but I have since passed through one of my two usb controllers using the following guide, https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36768.0 and this has addressed that problem.
