PCIe SATA Controllers not detected, compatibility issue, or bios setting?

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps,

I have just started a new build and have been adding my Sata controllers to the new motherboard. Unfortunately they are not being detected so the HDD are not showing up in the Bios. I feel like I must be doing something stupid but have tried just about every setting I can think of in the bios but no joy, the cards just don't show up in post.

I have tried putting a GFX card in the slots and that seems to work ok so it must be something else. Are these cards not compatible perhaps?

EDIT: I forgot to mention unRaid boots fine and is accessible from Windows, the 8hdd connected to the onboard sata ports are showing up ok. It is just the 6 on the external cards.

I really appreciate any help, don't want to count the hours I have been wasting on this :(

Thanks.

Ok, I have made a little progress.

If I use the 4th PCIe slot (the short one) then the controller card does show up in post. I managed to open the setup menu and you can see the options attached. However I am not sure what to do as I obviously don't want to wipe anything.

I am now wondering if unRaid needs a driver for these cards? Not sure why as I am using the exact same YSB stick that worked on my old motherboard and have changed nothing to the unraid install (6.17).

The Syslog is attached and does show some warnings but it doesn't mean anything to me unfortunately. :-[

Thanks again for any assistance!

Ok so when in doubt update stuff.  :-\

I updated unRaid to 6.2.1 and voila, unRaid now recognises one of my PCIe contollers in the mini slot. I moved my 4 channel cart to that port and moved a few drives round in the array and now have it running albeit without all of my drive bays working as I am still short a few sata channels.

I am going thinking of updating the Motherboard bios to see if that helps with the other PCIe slots that just won't recognise any controller cards but will wait for some feedback in case you guys have some better suggestions.

Cheers,

Adam
