GUI / Network Drops off, can't access via API or console

Featured Replies

Hi, newbie to unRAID, so please be gentle.

Issue:

Within 24hrs of running unRAID, the admin screen disconnects. I try to hit it via the browser or network folder and it doesn't respond. This happens randomly. If I hard reboot by holding the power button it starts back up and rebuilds the array/parity. Runs for another 12-24hrs and then cuts out again.

I read through the start here support post.

If networking is not working (and you have unRAID v6.0-rc4 or later), then if you can login at the console command prompt, you can type diagnostics, and you will get the same diagnostics.zip file in the /boot/logs folder.  You can then shut down with powerdown and take the flash drive to another computer.

By console, I assume this is the CMD looking screen that say "Tower Login"?

I tried typing in"diagnostics" and nothing happen. Tried typing in gyberish and nothing is typing. The cursor is blinking... begging me to login... but it wont let me type anything. I tested a few different USB connections with the keyboard and it doesn't work. Put the usb keyboard into another computer and it works.

My specs

Processor: Intel i7-980X Extreme

Motherboard: EVGA X58 FTW3

RAM - OCZ Reaper Edition 24GB - DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

Powersupply - BFG EX Series 1000w

Graphics Card - PNY Quadro 4000

Install the Fix Common Problems plugin and see if it finds anything you should fix.  Then try its Troubleshooting mode, which should give you diagnostics up to the point it hangs.

I installed the Fix Common Problems, everything came back ok. After installing it ran ok for a few days... so we are getting better. I installed plex, worked fine for a few days. Then installed Crashplan, seemed to work ok for a day. Then randomly I was unable to access via the browser. Via the command line, it still seems to be running. Just says login to tower.

I'm going to try the Troubleshoot mode and see if that comes back with anything.

It dropped again. Stay on for about 2-3 days then just drops off. i had troubleshoot mode on and have attached the syslog.txt which is the first half, syslog2.txt is the second. The full log was too big to attach.

I have no idea what i'm looking at but the last line on the log says

Jan  5 19:57:21 Tower root: Fix Common Problems: rootfs (/) currently 3 % full

Any ideas?

Attached is the second half

syslog-2.txt

Nothing in the logs.  Everything appears to be running normally up until the point that the system just plain stops working.

Does anything weird appear on the monitor (looking through past posts, it appears that it just says "Tower Login:" which is normal)

Unfortunately at this point you're at the point where its odds on a hardware issue.  The extra logging that FCP is doing regarding the sensors that you currently have installed on the system is showing nothing but normal temperatures (although you *might* be able to get some better information by installing the Dynamix System Temperature Plugin, and Perl from the NerdPack plugin and Detecting Sensors and Installing Drivers via the System Temperature settings)

But, that might all be for naught.  My outright first guess (since presumably nothing weird is on the screen) is Power Supply issue.  After that my probable guesses are in order: memory, motherboard, cpu

Since all of the plugins you have are from myself, I'm confident in stating that there's no plugin causing the issue  ;D  I don't particularly see it being possible that a docker app (all I can tell you've got running is CrashPlan) is possible to cause an outright lockup.

Bummer...

If it were power supply wouldn't it shut down the entire computer? Or are you saying its surging or something (again newbie)

Unfortunately, to replace the RAM or motherboard, it's probably not worth it since this chip can't do virtualization. The goal was to build once machine, run PLEX, Crashplan and my MAME. A man can dream right :)

Thanks for your help!

Power issues can result in hangs if the voltage dips or surges (basically anything variation outside of specification) can cause hangs.

The cheapest thing to do to test is to run memtest for at least 24hours from the unRaid bootmenu.  Not a guarantee that the memory is perfect, but if its outright bad then at least you know...
