April 2, 200719 yr The NIC on that motherboard should be supported. Please send me the system log as follows: At console, type the command: cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog This will make a copy of the system log in the root directory of your Flash. Create an email message and attach the file. (To attach file, either copy directly from 'flash' share of your server, or remove Flash and plug into your PC.) Finally, send the email to [email protected].
April 3, 200719 yr I also had a tough time getting this board to work. What finally made it work was using another USB thumb drive. The one I had worked perfectly on a different board but not on this one, it must have a very picky USB port. The USB stick that worked has no serial number for registration, so I went and bought a cruzer Micro 256 no love. It boots but no network so I went out and bought a Memorex 512 mini travel drive. It had that U3 crud on it and that was another story getting that off. Finally success so now I can register. P.S. I tried formating these drives that didn't work so many times and with the HP format tool, just no go. It been a long weekend but I am ready to start adding more drives!!
April 3, 200719 yr I don't know about this motherboard, but with other NForce 430 based mobo's it's important to make sure you have the latest bios for proper USB support. Also, try disabling "Legacy USB Support" in the bios.
April 6, 200719 yr Author I tried copying the files to the /boot directory.. which is empty.. but they dont show up when i put the flash into my other comp. At the end of the bootup sequence I get a couple of messages from rc.something saying "cannot load /boot/config/network" or something like that saying "file does not exist" and like I said /boot is empty I did have this happen a couple of times under 3.1 Now it happens all the time. Thanks, Jason
August 6, 200718 yr any update on this issue? I'm seeing similar messages on a new asus p5b-vm do motherboard Thanks

Thanks, Jason Everything you have given as clues indicate that your flash drive did not get mounted as /boot. This occurs when it does not have the volume label set to "UNRAID" or when it has hidden partitioning put there by the manufacturer. (U3 stuff) If this is a new flash drive and it came with those utilities pre-installed, they must be removed. If this is an older drive and you are upgrading...Did you remember to set the volume name to "UNRAID" (without the quotes) ?? Joe L.
August 6, 200718 yr thanks... I had figured this thing out through some other threads in this forum. Thanks again.
