April 2, 20179 yr Hey everyone, I have had an unraid setup for years and love it. The main reason I went with unraid instead of a raid setup was that the drives could sleep, as I'm not accessing all my data often enough to justify keeping them online all the time. My only issue is that frequently connecting and navigating folders takes for ages, to the point where my laptop can even time out. it seems like when I connect to a share and start navigating folders, drives must be spun up... I guess to verify the contents? Is this just me? Is there anyway to get the folder tree and file directory housed in ram instead of requiring the drives to be spun up for navigation? I feel like until I actually access a file there's no point in spinning up the drive it's on, no?
