Store bought PCs known to work with UnRaid?

Featured Replies

Are there any 'store-bought' PCs, as opposed to custom builds, that are known to work with unRaid? I believe I have seen the Dell Dimension 9200 mentioned, but are there other HP/Dell/Gateway units currently being produced that could be used for an unRaid server?

With the buying power of a Dell or HP, it is hard to beat their prices on a generic PC if one does not feel comfortable doing a custom build.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

See if they have Linux listed under the compatibility section. It's not a guarantee it will work with unRAID, but it will go a long ways towards it.

I'd compare the chipsets and NIC from what Dell give you and compare these components with the unraid Hardware Compatibility Listing see the link below:

It might not show the chipsets that the Dell PC has, but don't worry, like what BRiT suggested, simply research whether people have ran Linux on these PCs before sucessfully before. It should give you some light as to whether it'll work or not.

I've gotten it to work with the HP xw4300 workstation for a short test without too much hassle.
