June 6, 20179 yr Hi Guys, Drive just red balled during a session of heavy writes -- when I woke up it had a red X and was set to Unassigned. Any way to tell if this is a bad drive or bad cable etc? I tried to run SMART tests on the drive, but those options are grayed out Diagnostics are attached tower-smart-20170606-0721.zip
June 6, 20179 yr Community Expert Disk dropped offline, you need to reboot/power cycle to be able to get a SMART report.
June 6, 20179 yr When a drive loses connection with the controller, the drive will drop from the array and also be unavailable for smart reports. Rebooting will usually restore connectivity and allow you to get the smart report. Vast majority of the time these things are cable related, especially if you've recently had occasion to open the server and rattle the cables. The smart report will be useful to see if there are any significant disk issues.
