Changing to a cache pool

Featured Replies

Hi, I read the FAQ on cache pools and I apologize, I am still confused. I have a single 256GB NVMe cache drive that I want to replace with two 850-EVO SSDs as RAID 0. I get the part about moving the data off the old cache drive. I saw where the FAQ says you have to put the -dconvert in the balance section of the cache drive. How do I get from having the single cache device to having a pool? Do I have to add the two new drives as a cache device in RAID 1 using the GUI and then convert to RAID 0 using the -dconvert command?

3 steps, all in the FAQ, first replace current device, then add the second device, finally convert to raid0.

Forgot to say, if your current cache is already btrfs there's no need to move the data, replace procedure will take care of that, although it's always a good idea to backup any important data.

So you have to start with RAID1 and then convert to RAID0, thanks.

You can also add a device and maintain the single profile, still needs to be converted to raid0 in the end, so it's the same number of steps, one less balance though, method 2:
