New to UnRaid - powering up and down system

Featured Replies

I currently have a Freenas system and I am planning on converting to Unraid in the distant future, but I just wanted to know if I could easily power up the system for a few hours then turn it off for another time with out any problems. Right now I use my server here and there for a few hours or a couple of days then turn it off to save power and wear and tear on the system, and with freenas i can just hit shutdown from the webUI and/or the press the power button and walk away and I know it will be up and running no logging in or any work at all.

Hi mr_cb7. There are ways in which you can power on/off/suspend your unraid server. If you wish to wake it up from a powered down/sleep state, you can send a WEOL (Wake On LAN) or Magic Packet to your server to wake it up using the MAC address of the server.

If you're interested in suspending your server to sleep, please read the link below (A lengthly read, but worth it):

The 'Out of the box' method to power off your server is to log onto the web gui, stop the array and power off the server, much like FreeNAS, just a couple of more steps involved. Hope this helps.

The short answer to your questions is Yes.
