July 18, 20178 yr So I'm trying to hook up a USB printer to unRAID so I can pass it through to a VM and share it to my network devices as well as automatically scan things into my unraid server. I'm running into an issue that seems to happen every time I plug in the printer and I can't understand why. I am using a Dell R710 II. I have the unRAID usb plugged into the internal USB. It boots fine, I'm able to get to the web client just fine. I plug in the USB printer to one of the 2 available spots in the back and try to go to my unraid web gui, no luck. It reverts to the white theme and default banner. It prompts me to Install the Statistics Plugin. I can SSH into my server and run lsusb, but my unraid usb isn't there. This is what I get. I can plug in/unplug the printer and run lsusb with the expected results, but the unraid usb never returns. If I reboot my server, unRAID does not boot and I am required to unplug the internal unraid USB, then plug it back in before I can go into to bios and select it as a boot drive. I'm able to use other devices, such as keyboards, without killing my unRAID server, so this seems really weird to me. Any idea what could be causing this? Thank you in advance. EDIT: Just tried rebooting the server again with the printer unplugged. I guess I don't need to unplug and plug in the internal USB before it will boot, but I am unsure if it resets my boot order since the default primary boot method (my HBA) wouldn't try to boot since it is just unRAID drives. July 21, 20178 yr Two things: First, did you check for a update to the firmware for the printer? (Remember that USB devices can stream stuff through the USB when they are first connected.) Second, you need to attach the complete diagnostics file to your next post. 'Tools' >>> 'Diagnostics'
July 26, 20178 yr I'm having the same problem. When I plug in a usb printer to the front of my HP DL380 unraid crashes and wont boot. My flash drive is also installed on the internal usb
July 26, 20178 yr In thinking about this, I have a Yubi Key (Hardware two factor authenticator) pluged into the front USB port on my Windows PC. When I plug any Flash Drive into the second front plug, the Yubi key gets disconnected. I have an extension UBS cable which I have plugged into a UBS3 port on the rear. If I plug the Flash drive into that cable, the Yubi key stays on-line. So try a port on a different USB controller. You might have to install a header bracket to allow you to use a controller with an MB internal header. (Most modern motherboards have several unused USB headers on the MB.)
