July 19, 20178 yr Hello I am a new unraid user still on trial, so far so good. There is just one small issue that i have and that is a weird error message i have in the system log: Quote Jul 19 09:16:03 Tower kernel: ata14.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6Jul 19 09:16:03 Tower kernel: ata14.00: irq_stat 0x40000001Jul 19 09:16:03 Tower kernel: ata14.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:00:01/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 5 dma 16640 inJul 19 09:16:03 Tower kernel: opcode=0x1a 1a 00 3f 00 ff 00res 00/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x3 (HSM violation)Jul 19 09:16:03 Tower kernel: ata14: hard resetting linkJul 19 09:16:04 Tower kernel: ata14: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)Jul 19 09:16:04 Tower kernel: ata14.00: configured for UDMA/66Jul 19 09:16:04 Tower kernel: ata14: EH complete So. I tried googling for this and it seems like it might be because of a faulty SATA cable, because the SMART data for all of my disks show no signs of error. Could i be in the wrong here or have i missed something? I have also tried to find out which disk it is that gives off the error message but i'm not quite sure how to connect the dots. It does say that "Sata link up 1.5 Gbps" which is quite low - my motherboard can handle more than that( Asus Z9PE-D8 WS). Going in to the disk settings for each and every disk i can see the following information: Parity: SATA version:SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s) Disk1: SATA version:SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s) Disk2: SATA version:SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 3.0 Gb/s) But non of them has a 1.5 Gbps link speed. Any ideas?
July 19, 20178 yr Community Expert Are you using a Marvell controller? That is normal behavior for the Marvell console device, whatever that is. PS: Posting the diagnostics (tools -> diagnostics) is always better then syslog snippets, would allow to confirm or not my suspicions.
July 19, 20178 yr Author Yes, i am indeed using the Marvell controller for that disk(it seems like it at least). Edited July 19, 20178 yr by ruvil
July 19, 20178 yr Community Expert Yes, you can ignore that: Jul 19 07:28:35 Tower kernel: ata14.00: ATAPI: MARVELL VIRTUALL, , 1.09, max UDMA/66 Those Marvell controllers have issues with virtualization and in some cases drop disks without an apparent reason, if possible avoid using it, and certainly don't use it before using all onboard Intel ports.
