April 21, 201016 yr i know this has been mentioned before but its driving me crazy. i have my server set to local master on mshome. i just replaced my router to a gigabit one and i want to add files to my unraid server but the server doesnt show up on the network. i know its working i can browse to it and get to the webpage. i can get access to the shares and the drives wirelessly on my mac. its the pc running win 7 that cannot see the server. in the past it eventually showed up after some random amount of time. any tips? tbh im worried my new router isnt set up right! oh one thing i changed was setting a static ip but that shouldnt be an issue? ill try going back to dynamic. thanks!
April 21, 201016 yr Author well it never showed up with static ip so i switched it back to dynamic and now it showed up after about 60 seconds. weird is that //tower no longer works but i can see it as a network share and i can get there via ip
April 21, 201016 yr Author ok another question.... lol. i have it transferring now with a gigabit router. before i was 100 meg. i had transfer speeds around 11 mb/s before now with the new router im at 33ish mb/s. im not sure the type of cables im using probably a mix of cat 5/5e and 6. what kind of transfer speeds are you guys getting? im using internal sata 5900 rpm drives. thanks!
April 21, 201016 yr 33 mb/s transfers are perfectly normal. The max recorded has been about 45 mb/s, but that involved some fancy hardware. You must be using at least cat5e or cat 6 if you are getting those kinds of speeds. Cat5 would limit you to about 11 mb/s, just like your old router did. I personally get write speeds of 50-60 mb/s, but I use a cache drive. Writing directly to the array I get something like 25-30 mb/s.

April 22, 201016 yr Author im debating a cache drive. but im loading the array now and dont really expect to be doing tb+ transfers in the future. but then again i do have extra 320 gb drives. where are the cache drive configs? i recall its a 330 am write to the array or something like that. thanks.
April 22, 201016 yr i get 45MB > 30MB across the disk from start to end, no cache to user share. ive seen a peak of 55MB to disk shares at the start of a data disk. If you parity disk is fast, your writes will be fast.
April 22, 201016 yr You mean \\tower not //tower, correct? Can you use under CMD: net use X: \\tower\your_share_name If you have security on the server, you'll be prompted for a username and password. If this works fine, you should have a mapped X: drive, given that X: is a free drive on your PC. well it never showed up with static ip so i switched it back to dynamic and now it showed up after about 60 seconds. weird is that //tower no longer works but i can see it as a network share and i can get there via ip
