Known bug: cannot change case of existing files

Featured Replies

A user ran across a bug where you can not change the case of existing files/directories.  For example, suppose you have

/tower/disk1/My Photos

If you right-click this folder in Windows Explorer and attempt to rename to:

/tower/disk1/My photos

You'll notice it won't rename it.

This is a known bug in the latest "stable" release of Samba (3.0.24) being used by unRAID 4.x and won't get fixed until Samba 3.0.25 is released.

A work-around is to rename the file to some other name, and then rename again to the name you want.

Thanks for the heads up Tom....

I guess this means you can NOT use for example iTunes if you let iTunes organize and name the music files for you... I think changing cases in song titles is one of the most common changes you do within iTunes... In those cases, the described process (changing cases in file name) is exactly what iTunes do for you. Let's hope for a very quick update...

IIRC, the new release of Samba is in the next release of Unraid, so this should be solved quickly.

has this been resolved with the release of 4.1?  i am on 4.0 and have not experienced this issue and am reluctant to upgrade to 4.1 until this issue is resolved.
