BTRFS RAID 5 Config with 8 2TB Drives

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm rebuilding my storage server and wanted to run unraid so I can have more flexibility over freenas, however quickly realized that I didn't know where to start with a BTRFS Raid config as I've only ever used a normal unraid file system setup before. So I was wandering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to get started using btrfs within unraid.

Many Thanks,

Fraser

unRAID is not RAID, so there is no RAID 5. Each disk un unRAID is it's own file system, a part from the parity drives. So lets say you have ten 6TB disks for your system and you are going to use one for parity. You will setup the system, indicating the drive you are going to use for parity and then set the file system on all the other disks to BTRFS then start the array. It will calculate parity which will take some time, then you will be good to go, nothing to it.
