nmotion96
After losing data from a WD passport drive and costing $1200 for data recovery. I since tried out 2 drobo usb which are slow and currently running a hp mediasmart server and an unraid server with 16 HD inside. Its great so far only had 1 drive problem which swapping out for a new drive fixed. But what happen if the computer dies and you can boot it up? How would you get the data? Would you have to build another computer that can handle the same amount of drives and swap them in? Link to comment
mcs
How would you get the data? Would you have to build another computer that can handle the same amount of drives and swap them in? Each disk contains a standard Raiser FS which can be read on its own on any Linux box. Link to comment
nmotion96
Thanks a lot. I was worried about what happen if the hardware was to die. So its kinda like the hp mediasmart server. Where if the unit dies, the hard drive can be read from a windows machine. Link to comment
purko
You may want to have a look at the wiki: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#What_are_the_advantages_of_unRAID_over_similar_products.3F Link to comment
SBB
Yes its possible to read the drives in a windows machine, however you will have to install third party tools to do so Link to comment
