  1. Nope, no errors in the syslog, as long as viewing it by using tail -f /var/log/syslog in telnet is correct? I just wondered if this was normal - if it is i'll let it run Thanks
  2. Hi all, I added a seagate 2tb drive to my system today. When i go to add it to the array, I select it in slot "disk12" (next free one) and click ok, but the webgui freezes and i cant get in it. The HDD light on my case is on and I can access it via telnet ... is this normal? How long will it take to be online? Cheers in advance Ben
  3. ARGH this makes no sense: I tried with a direct cable connection between my PC and unraid server ... full speed. Using switch, slow speed. So I figured there must be a problem with the switch ... so I ran iperf between unraid and my PC over the switch and these were the results: Anyone got any ideas, this problem has totally got me stumped!
  4. For some reason changing the network cable fixed it for a few minutes, then the system "froze" for a couple of minutes (I couldnt access it at all) and then came back with the same slow speeds ... Any ideas?
  5. Hi all, I'm having some problems with very low read speeds from my unRAID setup - when copying to my cache drive, the speed is great, around 70mbyte/sec. But when I read from the array the speed is only 3-4mbyte/sec, even when only copying 1 file at a time. Parity check speed also seems reasonable at 45mb/sec. My setup is as in my signature, the drives are connected as follows: Parity - WD EARS 2TB with alignment jumper - Connected to motherboard SATA Cache - 500GB Seagate 7200.12 - Connected to motherboard SATA Rest of the drives are split across the motherboard and a Raidcore PCI-X card I have installed (on a PCI-X slot) I am using a vanilla install of 5.0-beta11 Thanks in advance for any help!
  6. hmm, that calculation was not including cache drive though, so it still seems like i've lost 500gb
  7. Hi all, I've just upgraded from 4.6 to 5.0 beta6a (went to 4.7 in between before anyone asks ) However, i've lost 500gb of space from my array somehow ... I have the following setup: 8 * 2TB drives 4 * 1.5TB drives 500gb cache I've worked this out to be 18.6TB, and I have a screenshot showing that the total size was 18.6TB pre-5.0 upgrade, but since the 5.0 upgrade it's only showing 18.1TB ... what gives? Thanks Ben

    Hardware Swap?

I tried it and the speed of the RAID card was horrendously slow (8 drives on a single PCI slot doesnt work well at all ), but was worth a try anyway

    Hardware Swap?

Hi all, my unraid box has been running great, but I have a question. I want to build a HTPC, and my unraid machine has very excessive specs (e5200 + 2gb ddr2 + ati 4350 with hdmi), and I have an AMD Sempron 2200+, mobo and 512mb ram spare, all working. I'd like to swap these spare parts into my unRAID server so I can use the parts currently in it in an HTPC. I would be using 2 PCI RAID cards (The raidcore in my sig and a 4 port one I have spare), and a PCI gigabit NIC. I'd need to swap my cache drive to an IDE one as I would have no free SATA ports. Would these specs be ok to run my server? Regards Ben
  10. Yes its possible to read the drives in a windows machine, however you will have to install third party tools to do so
  11. My first unRAID rig Wiring is atrocious but it's all secure Intel E5200 + Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 2GB PC6400 DDR2 Asus P5Q-WS Mobo Asus ATI HD 4350 passive video card Raidcore BC4852 PCI-X RAID card used for extra ports 8 * 2TB WD Green, 4 * Seagate 1.5TB LP in 4-in-3, 500GB Seagate 7200.12 for cache 2GB Transcend JetFlash as /boot (See ghetto install below ) NZXT Whisper case + An extra fan cable tied in FSP 800w modular PSU
  12. I use a WDTV live and it works great with unRAID. The only issue I had was when I enabled logins/passwords after I bought unraid pro, it would let me in the share on the WDTV but then say no media files existed I fixed this by: Go to settings > network Turn off "auto login to network shares" Access your unRAID share, log in with the appropriate username/password and make sure its working Go back to settings > network Turn on "auto login to network shares" Job done
  13. All up and running now, and getting 30mb/sec write. Is this good? It's fast enough for me but i thought it would've been slightly higher
  14. I would be very grateful if you could, it supports RSS and the unpack plugin would save everyone a huge amount of time im sure
