read/write speed very slow. Figuring out root cause and fixing?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm on 4.0b9.

Eleven 500GB disks. When connected to another computer, read/write speed reaches 35MB/Sec.

On the Unraid server Read speed, on a Gige network, is only 4.5MB/Sec. Write speed around 2.5. This kills playing movies (stutter). Network is clean - nothing else running.

Mobo is Asus M2MPV. Using the on-bard SATA connector + 2 promise Sata PCI cards. 1 gig ram.

Reading on the forum, I saw people are getting to 15 and even 20 MB/Sec read speed.

What are your suggestions on what I should do next to figure out where the bottleneck is?

I ran raiserfsck on all disks, so that's not a problem.

Here's what I get on ifconfig eth0:

root@Tower:~# ifconfig eth0

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:18:F3:4C:C8:41

          inet addr:10.0.0.5  Bcast:10.255.255.255  Mask:255.0.0.0

UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

          RX packets:1416997 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

          TX packets:5448623 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000

          RX bytes:97524415 (93.0 MiB)  TX bytes:3519089264 (3.2 GiB)

          Interrupt:16 Base address:0xc000

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

One more piece of info: when doing a parity check, the web-ui reports its running at 15,643 KB / sec (which I think is fine?).

Hopes this provides more info that would allow suggesting where to look next to solve the slow read/write I'm getting.

Thx,

Shahar

ping?  :)

You probably mean M2NPV motherboard?

Try the command:

  ethtool  eth0

This will tell you if NIC is running at GigE speed.

Please attach your syslog.
