[solved] [unRAID 6.4.0.rc7a] WOL not waking from S3 sleep and losing boot usb stick

Featured Replies

Hello,

I configured S3 Sleep on my Dell T20 (activating S3 and WOL at BIOS) and installed the S3 sleep plugin from Dynamix.

I followed this tutorial: https://wiki.lime-technology.com/Setup_Sleep_(S3)_and_Wake_on_Lan_(WOL)

The results of my eth0 interface include Wake-on: g

When using the button "Sleep" from the main screen, my server powers down to S3 (blinking LED) and is not reachable.

Wake-on-LAN packets get ignored.

When I power my server on manually, it only shows me a black screen. I have to reboot it then and verified, that my bootable USB-Stick for unRAID is missing from my boot devices.

After doing another reboot, it shows again and boots to unRAID.

S3 Sleep somehow seems to unmount my boot drive and my server doesn't recognize it anymore.

Can someone help me getting this fixed? I need this feature and I can't justify buying this software without getting it working.

Being that it's a dell, please check in BIOS for the Block Deep Sleep option.

The Dells go into a Deep Sleep and are a real PITA to get to come out of it cleanly

I just disabled Deep Sleep at my BIOS, but that didn't solve the problem.

The behavior is still the same. :(

You do realize that support of the sleep operation is not officially part of unRAID. There is just too much hardware diversity and dependency to guarantee each time a succesful sleep and wake-up operation.

In your case, perhaps better to ask at Dell support how your system can support sleep.

What sleep states are you still allowing?

I've had many Optiplex units work perfectly with WOL and both Unix and Windows OS's

Hello,

I disabled S4 and S5 at my BIOS, S3 is still enabled.

I did test around with Windows 10 and Debian, because I wanted to know if the BIOS is causing the problematic WOL.

On Debian, I experienced exactly the same issues mentioned.

On Windows 10, I faced the same issues too.

I was troubleshooting the issues with the CMD command "powercfg -a", which showed me that all Idle states are not supported, because of my graphics card.

After installing the graphic drivers for my Intel P4600, everything worked well. I have no issues waking up my Dell T20 with Windows 10.

Do I need to install seperate graphic drivers on unRAID, too?

Edit: I was able to wake my Server with the tool Wake on LAN 2:

https://github.com/basildane/WakeOnLAN

But the screen stays black and unRAID isn't reachable. I can't even ping my computer.

The boot medium is gone after a reboot. I need to reboot my server two times, to see my bootable USB again...

Any ideas?

IT WORKS!!!

I had to boot unRAID with legacy boot, the problem only exists with EFI boot.

Glad we could help.

Dell BIOS for uefi needs work to get WOL working 100%. Keep an eye out on their site for updates to BIOS and other main components especially if it's a server (LCC/iDrac etc)
