Moving unRAID from clone to HP Proliant ML110 Gen9

Featured Replies

Hi all, we was using unRAID basic for long time and now we have decided to move to a better hardware.

Currently we have an i7 with 16GB of RAM and 1 128gb ssd as cache and 1tb hdd as storage

We run around 2 or 3 VMs at same time

But we just bought an HP Proliant ML110 Gen9, with a 6-core Xeon, 24GB ECC RAM and 2x 2TB HDD, and im feeling kind of noob :P

I was asked to build a RAID-1 array with those to use it with unRAID

Im kind of lost right now and have a few noob questions

First the server dont run from the USB as UEFI if i dont manually choose "Legacy BIOS", dont know why

Second, unRAID will be able to manage my RAID-1?

Third, what would be the easiest way to move my VMs to the new array? they have 100gb vdisks each, I was thinking about downloading it and moving, because this server doesnt came with regular sata power cables, so my only option is to plug it to the SAS ports like i did with the other disks or maybe with an USB to sata adapter

A little help will be very much appreciated

Thanks!

Hi -

The current version of unRAID only supports legacy boot, the new one in beta supports UEFI boot so you'll have that soon-ish.

unRAID isn't RAID, and the data array doesn't support RAID-1.  Rather, unRAID has it's own software based "RAID" implementation, Wiki Reference .  The cache pool can support RAID-1 via BTRFS but I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for...
