NIC link starts at 100Mbps after upgrade

Featured Replies

A few days ago, I upgraded from 6.2.4 to 6.3.2 and now my unRAID network connection is 100Mbps when I boot. I saw the following from my diagnostics...

"kernel: e1000e 0000:04:00.0 eth0: Link Speed was downgraded by SmartSpeed" .But I have no idea what is causing this. I can instantly recover 1000Mbps by simply unplugging and reconnecting the network cable. This is new behavior. My system has been running fine for 4 years (in that time, I've only added hard drives and upgraded from version 5 to 6). It is a simple system, just a bunch of disks. I only use the upgrade plugin and built-in ups. I have a Supermicro motherboard X7DB8-X with Intel NIC onboard. CPU is Intel Xeon X5460. There is 8MB of ECC memory. Is there anything else in the diagnostics that can suggest why "SmartSpeed" is now doing this? Is "SmartSpeed" an Intel or Linux utility? I would appreciate any suggestions to try to resolve this.  It's not a crisis...just annoying.

I reverted back to 6.2.4 and all was fine. Upgraded again to 6.3.2 and now I'm at 100Mbps again. The files below are immediately after the last upgrade to 6.3.2.

Thanks, Al

It's likely an issue with your cable/NIC as many are using those Intel NICs without issue, though latest release is v6.3.5, not 6.3.2, you should try that one.

Thanks for looking at my issue. I updated to 6.3.5 and the results are the same. I unplugged and reconnected the cable and 1000Mbps comes right up. Weird. I may try a separate NIC card to see if that works. The network connection seems to remain stable after the replug. If that is all I have to complain about, I'm very happy with how the system performs.

Thanks for the suggestion.
