June 5, 201016 yr Some background: I have been using unRAID for a couple years now without any problems, other than a dead mobo I had to replace a while back. A few days ago, I decided to upgrade from 4.5.1 (which I have had absolutely no problems with) to 4.5.4. After I updated and rebooted, everything was working fine... for a few minutes. Then the server crashed. I attached a monitor to the system, and upon reboot, it froze while loading bzroot. After letting the system sit with the power off for a while, it booted up, but then crashed again after running for a bit. Nothing pertaining to the crashes shows up in the syslog (I have tried looking at the syslog after a reboot, and also viewing it in telnet while the server is running, up until a crash). I took a picture of a couple different errors that show up on the monitor when the system crashes. I'm guessing this is a hardware issue, but it's strange that I didn't start having problems until immediately after updating to 4.5.4. If anyone has any ideas as to what's going on, or suggestions of things to check, let me know! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
June 5, 201016 yr Author Hmmm.... I ran Memtest yesterday and didn't get any errors, but I just ran it again now and got a bunch of errors and a crash on Test #4 Pass 1. So I guess I'll try replacing my RAM and see if that solves anything!
June 5, 201016 yr Coincidentally, when you upgraded your unRAID version, your RAM got damaged. If the RAM replacement doesn't solve the problem, let us know.

The motherboard is supposed to be able to set those for you, and often it gets it right, but just as often it gets it wrong, especially if you have premium RAM. Your existing RAM might be fine, or not.... but if configured wrong, the best RAM will fail. Joe L.
June 5, 201016 yr Author I had everything set up correctly, and I've had no problems for well over a year. The crashing did not start until a few days ago, immediately after I updated to 4.5.4 (nothing else has changed). I'll post an update after I get some new RAM to test with. Edit: So I just got my new RAM and put it in. So far so good! Ran memtest for a while and it was fine, now I booted up unRAID and it completed the parity check and seems to be working fine. So I'm hoping my old RAM just died and that was the whole problem. Thanks for the help!
