help ...mounts to unRAID from WinXP won't stick

Recommended Posts

Gnnnnhhhaarrrggghh&§%!/!

I am a complete noop when it comes to windows and

file sharing/mounting network drives from within XP.

My unraid Box is running simple security and I can

access the user shares just fine from all my linux boxes.

However, I just had to deal with a WinXP (SP3) install.

When I connect to my unRAID networkshare via

the explorer, the share connects, file view opens in a

window and I can access the files fine.

However, when I close that window and try to re-open the

mapped network drive, WinXP prompts for user and PW  >:(

...any fastpath on how to solve this available from

the side of the Win experts out there?

TIA,

Are you sure that you are mapping it as a network drive?  There should be a checkbox for reconnect at login and the drive should be showing up with a letter name if mapped.  Another thing that will automatically connect you to unraid is if you create a user in xp with the same username and password that you have set in unraid.  That may be the easiest solution.

...sorry for the late response...but I've been on the road for a while...

Yes, I am.

The Map works fine, and the new drive opens in an explorer window.

I can do what I want to do from within that window and - while the window is still there - use the drive from within other programs.

However, when i close the window, any further access to the drive would result in a prompt for a password.

Yes...same thing, besides the drive starts as unavailable direct after system restart.

Yes, but I'd like to keep unRAID in simple security.

I can browse to unRAID from explorer with "\\Tower" fine all the time...I can also use a Link to "\\Tower" (which I have placed on the desktop)

to access unRAID from other programs, but I cannot map a drive-name without the strange behavior I described.

,,,under win 7, even a path "\\Tower" in explorer would cause the pop-up for user%pwd.

I then tried with IP-Address instead of names and that seems to work.

..mapped network drives do now persist fine...

Guess I'll have to double check my dhcp&dns setup
