Remove two disks from the array

Featured Replies

I just upgraded to 4.5.4 in order to add a particular controller to my system.  I connected two new hard drives that I bought to the controller, added them to the array and all is good.  However, I realized that I don't need to add two drives to the array right now, so I decided that I want to remove one of them and just unplug it from the power supply, sort of a cold backup that has already had preclear run several times on it in case one of the other disks fails.

The problem is, since they are plugged into the controller and they are identical disks, I don't know which actual hard drive is sdb and which is sdd.  So, I figure I would just remove them both from the array, unplug the one that I want to make the cold spare and then restart.  However, I just realized that if you remove TWO disks from the array, there is no way to restart it.  You can remove one, but not two.

So, how do I do this?  The manual says:

If there are two or more missing disks, you can not start the array. In this case you must either put the disks back, or click Restore on the Main page to reset the configuration.

but there is no restore button.  Perhaps this documentation is out of date?  Anyway, if anyone has any clues, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Chris

Maybe this helps:

From the change log:

- Removed 'Restore' button from webGui, replacing with new shell command called 'initconfig'.
