Memtest with UEFI Boot

Featured Replies

I am having a problem kicking off the memtest option from the syslinux menu when I boot with UEFI (renaming EFI- to EFI).

unRAID boots fine, but if I select the memory test, it immediately spontaneously reboots without a hint of the memory test program running.

Renaming the EFI back to EFI-, and booting with USB vs UEFI booting, the memory test runs as expected.

Maybe I missed a step somewhere with UEFI. Is there something I need to do to enable run the memory test with UEFI booting?

Sorry but not much diagnostic data I can send. This is on an ASRock X299 motherboard.

Booting into unRAID works fine whether in UEFI or USB/legacy boot mode.

Memtest is bios only, it won't work in UEFI, there's a new Passmark memtest that is UEFI.

Is there a way to configure from the syslinux menu?

For now, I created a bootable USB and booted into this test.

Beeped once and I thought it had hung or refused to boot. But eventually it started to say things about detecting detecting various things. Eventually the GUI came up (probably took 60-90 seconds to get through all of its detecting hardware). When the testing starts it looks somewhat like the old memtest, but seems to recognize the hardware better (e.g., displayed base vs turbo clock for the CPU for example).

I'm letting it run overnight (at least). Hoping it is stressing the memory appropriately.

Not AFAIK, you either boot in UEFI mode and can't run memtest or boot in bios mode and can, though you just need to change the boot type in the bios, no need to fiddle with the UEFI folder on the flash drive.
