Migration to new DIY Box and unRAID

Featured Replies

I am currently using an older Drobo FS storage box with three 3TB drives.  I want to keep the data on them, but I also want to move it to a new DIY box that I am building now with unRAID.  I am thinking of getting an 8TH Parity drive, but how should I handle moving those older drives and data over?  Out of the 9TB there, some of it is protected, and I have about 4TB of actual data on those.  I'm going thru the guides now but it's not 100% clear to me.  I of course don't want to screw this up and lose the data, while having the ultimate outcome of still using those drives.

Thanks!

Just double checking wording

Why not start from scratch?

Copy the Drobo data to brand new disks and make your unRAID your primary store.

Then keep the Drobo as a offline backup with the capacity to handle 6TB of data. Boot it once/week to copy new files to the Drobo.

In the end, parity isn't a replacement for backup.

Hmm, interesting point there pwm, that may not be a bad idea.  I could drastically reduce the price of my Google drive costs, use this as an offline backup.  I'm going to research this
