February 18, 20188 yr So I am getting this error trying to start up my ubuntu vm. I didn't save the lib file when i moved servers. I had just copied over the .img files and put the specs back to what they were. All was good with my Windows VMs but my ubuntu vm.. well not so much luck. So how do I go about fixing this? February 19, 20188 yr Author So I found how to fix this https://askubuntu.com/questions/566315/virtualbox-boots-only-in-uefi-interactive-shell Quote 27down vote I had the same problem (with the EFI enabled because I couldn't get it to run otherwise). Strange; although installation of Ubuntu 14.04.2 got no error, installing Kubuntu 15.04 failed to finalize. It froze at the very end when asked to remove DVD. After reset, it booted fine but after power down it brought up shell. So, to avoid shell type: fs0: edit startup.nsh and on the opened window add these 2 lines: FS0: \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi press Ctrl + s and Enter to save and Ctrl + q to quit. Then restart VM. Alternatively, you can always use these 2 lines to exit shell and boot OS. But second time you restart you will be in a shell again and to avoid it edit startup.nsh.
February 20, 20188 yr Author Also I might add that after I was able to get it booted. I did a apt-get update / upgrade and it had also fixed the EFI issue.
March 12, 20188 yr thanks for sharing this, it solved my problem when moving vm's from one unraid box to another.
